Mother Underwing - Catocala parta

Mother Underwing - Catocala parta
Ailsa Craig, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
September 9, 2005
In parking lot of community centre. I may have accidentally run over some part of this moth; when I stopped the car and got out, it was lying on its back directly behind the rear tire. I used a twig to turn it over and it fluttered around a bit, exposing the hind wings.

Update 7 Jan 2006: Thanks to Jeff Crolla of Toronto for identifying this one as C. parta, previously misidentified as C. meskei and mistakenly placed on the Meske's Underwing page.
