robber flies - mating - Eudioctria nitida - Male Female

Size: approx 10 to 12 mm
For a few weeks in early June, these robber flies were mating all over the place. Now, at the end of July, I no longer find any.

Beautiful things
In the NE there are several Eudioctria and Dioctria. They are not always easy even in hand. This one has some bright orange tibias. Perhaps more distinctive.
