Weird "Ghost" of a (Satellite?) Fly in Image
Just noticed it, with head diving into the flowers...look below hind-legs of the female
Eremnophila
.
Miltogrammine flies like to trail these guys.
Could that be (a super-sonic) one?

Must be something close to
Thread-waisted Wasp - Eremnophila
if you want to start your search there, but Eric will likely know

Eremnophila aureonotata
Yes, these are
Eremnophila aureonotata
, a very common Thread-waisted wasp with no common name. There is only one North American species in the genus, and it is quite distinctive--all black except for the silver/gold marks. It is really more commonly seen than
Ammophila
, but for some reason has never been illustrated in any popular guides. Eric's new Kaufman guide, I'm sure, will have an illustration.

Very Unique & Interesting Post, Chris!!
Eremnophila
are typically characterized by silvery-white patches of fine appressed hairs on the pronotal lobes, metapluera and elsewhere. Your image here is the best instance I could find (among the many
Eremnophila
posts
on BugGuide) of the
"rare exception"
to this mentioned in Bohart & Menke
(
1
)
. For more details, look under "Identification" on the
BG info page
(which I just spent many hours adding material to :-).
