No it is not...
It is a Duskywing. Probably Juvenal's Duskying based on the date, locality and overall appearance, but I would need to see the underside to be sure. Compare other images in the guide.

I have looked at the Duskywing images in the guide and I found the two photos -the Illinois & Iowa specimens - which greatly resembled all of my photos. I do not have any underwing views.
I guess I'll label it with this name and a question mark, until - or if - I get other photos of this insect. I'll be looking for it next spring.
