Dolichomyia gracilis? - Dolichomyia gracilis
Juan Miller Road from U.S. 191, White Mountains., Greenlee County, Arizona, USA

Going out on a limb with this guess. Don't even know if I'm in the right family. BugGuide has only one pinned image of this species so it is difficult to compare with. It exhibited a strange "display". It would slowly curve its abdomen upward and then slowly curve it downward repeatedly. Never saw it fly so don't know if it hovers. Any info on the ID would be greatly appreciated.

Your ID looks right to me. Interesting observation of the behaviour - the few individuals of this genus that I've seen weren't doing anything like that as far as I can recall.
