Doing pull-ups - Helius flavipes - Male
Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 27, 2009
Size: 6 mm
I'm posting this fly in three pieces because I couldn't get a clear picture of the whole thing. It was on the bottom of a leaf raising and lowering its whole body (a behavior of Limonia communis, but that species has a much longer beak than this fly).

Next to swamp.

This is a male
of Helix flavipes . Notice the slightly elongate beak, this is one of the characters for this genus. Here is info on their biology. - Chen
