ID- A umbrosa- Yup!
Great job on a really tough subject, Jay! Amazing colors! I just love flight shots...At home, this is the Aeshna that I see the latest, into early November in New Brunswick, Canada. I will shortly post a few of my own shots of this species in flight. Please have a look!

Aeshna
I vote for Aeshna tuberculifera. Stunning shots.

Shadow Darner?
Looks like it could be Aeshna umbrosa. The males have that anterior thoracic stripe that's basically straight with the "flag" on top. Also the abdominal spots are smaller than most other Aeshna.
