Here's a view of an interesting behavior of what I believe to be Carabus meander. It appears to be a mating offering. These beetles were on the side of a tree trunk about three feet above ground level. I don't recall seeing this behavior in insects.

These are Carabus vinctus. Very common on Delmarva.
