Cucujidae: Cucujus clavipes Fabricius
This is the larva of Cucujus clavipes Fabricius, the common, very flat N.A. cucujid, the adult of which is that handsome, flat, red beetle. In the Pacific coastal states, it also travels around with the subspecies name Cucujus clavipes puniceus Mannerheim, the nominate subspecies, C. clavipes clavipes Fabricius, being from the eastern U.S. and Canada, west to the great Plains.
