Strange insect. - Tasgius ater

I thought at first this was some kind of black wasp but it looks like the wings fold up like an earwig and the more I look at it the more it resembles one. Is this some kind of earwig? I'm probably way off track.

Don't think so.
Head looks too broad, and the antennae don't look quite right for Philonthus.

Large rove beetle.
This is a large rove beetle with its flying wings exposed. Normally they are tucked beneath the short elytra (wing covers). Not sure even what genus this one is, but yes, they can strongly resemble wasps, especially in flight. Nice shots, someone should be able to be more specific.
