size? plain dorsal? reminds me of Holcostethus limbolarius...
...but i don't know what else of this general looks the W.Coast may harbor (well, perhaps some

, but unlikely...)

The same yard had this one

For the current specimen, by measuring the original photo, which has part of a finger in it, body length without antennae is 0.283 in. (7.2 mm).
This stinkbug is secondary to the questions
here
. We're trying to find out whether some other specimens are stinkbug nymphs or shield-backed bugs.
