Unknown Caterpillar - Heterocampa pulverea

Unknown Caterpillar - Heterocampa pulverea
Flat Rock, Henderson County, North Carolina, USA
September 13, 2005
Size: 1.5"
This fat 1.5 inch caterpillar was found crawling on my asphalt driveway.
Based on pictures in the "Caterpillars of Eastern North America" by David
Wagner I suspect that this may be a member of the Genus Heterocampa.

Moved from Heterocampa.

I think I found it...
How about White-blotched Heterocampa.....see this site a little more than half-way down the page.

White-blotched Heterocampa
Lynette,
Thanks for the data. The White-blotched is very close to what
I have. Certainly there is very little doubt that mine is one
form of Heterocampa or another. Mine has now pupated so perhaps
the adult will confirm that this is a W-B.

Wow!
What a chunky guy! Reminds me of the "big fat caterpillar" from the book...The Very Hungry Caterpillar....I wonder if this one has a stomach ache, too?

Fat Guy
Lynette,
Either that or this guy was one heck of a beer drinker!
