Which Katydid? - Amblycorypha rotundifolia - Female
Jim Thorpe, PA 18229, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 13, 2005
Size: 2 inches approx.

a Round-winged Katydid

I'm pretty sure
this is Microcentrum rhombifolium, Greater Angle-wing Katydid.

No.
This is NOT Microcentrum, but a female roundheaded katydid in the genus Amblycorypha. The species in that genus have increased greatly lately, thanks to "splitters" who reclassified them. The females all have that incredible scimitar-like ovipositor. Microcentrum females barely have an ovipositor at all. Sorry, Lynette:-) Great image, Jo!

crud,
thought I had that one :( My Field Guide has only the male drawing....I wish Capinera's field guide showed both sexes of each species!

I did that too
I made that mistake -I looked in all 3 for my field guides before "deciding" which it was-sigh--Eric corrected me on this species too-I think we need a really, really clear comprehensive field guide that shows both sexes for each species-yeah-It would be worth the $$$ it would cost. ^_^
