I found this on the sidewalk. It walked in both directions, and had some fibers caught in its pincers. ID help appreciated.

Interesting
to see a larva that would turn into a well-known and striking adult ground beetle. However, I'm even more interested in your opinion as to why your insect collection accumlated mold? This is not expected in a northern climate such as New York unless you stored collection in basement. I've seen this dreaded complication occur at ground level with a certain brand of cardboard insect boxes with glass pane in top lid.

 
The cardboard insect boxes
were stored on a shelf in a second story closet. I guess the humid weather we have from time to time made them susceptible.
