Pearl Crescent - Phyciodes tharos - male

Pearl Crescent - Phyciodes tharos - Male
Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
July 18, 2005
Size: 32 mm wingspan
Looks to my novice eye like a butterfly, but it came to UV lights in marshy stream locale.

Pearl
Based on black antennal tips and lesser % orange on wings, I'm calling this Phyciodes tharos, or Pearl Crescent.

butterfly
Jim, that's a male Crescent you got on the sheet. There are 2 choices up here, Pearl or Northern. I would lean more towards Pearl, but you may get another opinion.

Thanks Tom
I never expected a butterfly to come to UV lights, but then I've had some other unexpected visitors come as well. I've moved it to genus page.
