Not Plinthocoelium...
Fred Skillman is a good cerambycid guy, but I believe this is
Rhodoleptus femoratus
(Schaeffer). Compare to
these photos
- note the orange head, pronotum and elytral base and dark elytral apex and humeral markings. The legs are marked orange and black in similar fashion to
Plinthocoelium
; however, in
Rhodoleptus
the tibiae are not as expanded and flattened.
This would appear to be a new genus/species for BugGuide.

This is quite interesting
I would not have recognised it as Plinthocoelium, but Fred is THE local expert. My question to you Ray, is, are you 100% sure that you took this photo at the ASDM???? I am putting together an illustrated species list for them and I did not expect to see this one. It seems that you were travelling in AZ. Is it at all possible that you took the photo somwhere else?

Location of Pic
Hello Margarethe. Yes, this photo was definitely taken at the Desert Museum. It was in shrubbery along the paved path between the walk-in aviary and the Ironwood Gift Shop. Unfortunately it was too deep in the foliage for me to leave the path and get a pic from another angle.
