Crab-like Rove Beetle - Coproporus pulchellus

Crab-like Rove Beetle - Coproporus pulchellus
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
August 11, 2009
This little beetle got short-sheeted. Why and what's the reason for?

Coproporus pulchellus
This is a dead ringer for C. pulchellus (Erichson 1839), a new species for the genus. The pale apices and the metallic sheen on the elytra are (apparently) dead giveaways...

Cheers,
zack
