Size: ~10mm
Same sp. as thumb below, but probably a different specimen. This one is taking nectar in the late blooming Scale broom (Lepidospartum squamatum, Asteraceae).

No question about tribe, since R2+3 starts at an angle of 90ยบ. I hope Andy will have some thoughts.
Update, 10/31/2013 - genus should be Chrysanthrax. Face conically projecting but rounded, blunt. Antennae more like Chrysanthrax rather than Villa.
