Cuerna sp. - Cuerna striata

Cuerna sp. - Cuerna striata
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
August 19, 2005
This question is for Andy Hamilton. Is it possible to identify this to species based on the locality? You indicate that Cuerna septrionalis and C. striata are identical, but that septrionalis is more northern, found in the boreal forest, so I would guess that this is the more likely species here in Edmonton. Am I right, or, horrors of horrors, do both species occur here?

Cuerna septentrionalis
Yes, you are probably right. Cuerna striata is rare in western Canada, and has only been taken as far northwest as Vermilion... but that's not all that far from Edmonton, so you can't be certain. Detailed examination of an actual specimen would be necessary for accuracy.

A nice photo! May I be allowed to copy it? Please contact me at hamiltona(at)agr.gc.ca
