As black as the wings look, the top of the thorax looks even blacker.

Update 14 Jan 2006: Thanks to Jeff Crolla of Toronto for correcting the ID of this one (previously thought to be Apamea impulsa), and thanks to Don Lafontaine for confirming the identification of Euxoa velleripennis. Both images moved from Apamea page to new species page.
