From my experience this is the darker version of the White-Lined Sphinx Moth caterpillar. I have had them around my yard eating purslane.

White-lined Sphinx?
Based on the food plant (Oenothera) and this picture in the guide, I think it might be a white-lined sphinx (Hyles lineata)- though one of the experts here should confirm my guess
