Hackberry Emperor - Asterocampa celtis - female

Hackberry Emperor - Asterocampa celtis - Female
San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, USA
August 8, 2009
Took pic in my backyard on my lantana. After spending hours looking in my Kaufman guide and on the internet, I've given up trying to ID myself. Still too new to this, I guess. I've assumed it's a blue or a hairstreak, but again, can't find anything exactly like this in my area. Next step will have to be a class to help me get started better. Thanks again for any help.

Of course it is! We do have a hackberry tree out back too! How could I not have seen that in the book?? Hopefully the more I do this, the less inept I will be. I think I didn't ever feel this lost with birding because I had some great ornithologists in the family to get me started. Thanks again for this fantastic website.
