Black Blister Beetle? - Epicauta pensylvanica - male - female

Black Blister Beetle? - Epicauta pensylvanica - Male Female
Stafford, Stafford County, Virginia, USA
September 17, 2005
Epicauta pennsylvanica? Looks like the images in the guide and none from Virginia. I did not want to move to guide without confirmation.

I think so
I added the M+F signs for you based on the action. The male tickles the female's rear end with his twitching antennae, trying to get her interested.

I was wondering...
...what exactly was going on. Thanks, Jim.
