Here's a minor but interesting observation: note that the small, narrow, whitish "squiggles" on top of the middle abdominal segments are not flash or other lighting artifacts. They have the same exact shape and position in all the photos I took (from varying viewing angles).

I don't know whether those squiggles are just superficial scratches...or if, in analogy to leaf-miners...they're perhaps tracks of some "cuticle-mining" nematode? (The latter may be a too-wild and imaginative speculation...but who knows? :-)
