Phidippus cardinalis - male

Phidippus cardinalis - Male
Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
August 22, 2009
I presumed (incorrectly) that bright red jumpers would be easy to identify in the field. Not so! Now I understand Jay's comment that for the salticid fan there is likely alcohol in their future :) I found a small population of these wonderful spiders in a glacial sand plain area on andropogon. With thanks to G.B. Edwards for his comments. See also, http://bugguide.net/node/view/322645
