Big Brown Spider - Coras - male

Big Brown Spider - Coras - Male
lagrangeville, dutchess County, New York, USA
August 18, 2009
Found it in my basement wandering around on the floor after I moved some furniture around.

Moved
Oops, sorry. I initially didn't even mean to move this. Thought about it and forgot to untag it when moving something else.

Moved
Moved from Cybaeidae.

Moved
Moved from Hacklemesh Weavers. From Rod Crawford: ... almost certainly Cybaeidae.

Coras?
Seems a lot like a Coras sp.? Besides Cybaeota calcarata (a tiny 2.5mm cybaeid species), there's 3 species of Cybaeus in the northeastern USA, though... so maybe this is just a Cybaeus species I've never seen before.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

We would suggest
one of the Hacklemesh Weavers

Crime Scene Investigator
Anybody have an idea of the victim's ID?

Cybaeus
may be another possibility, though I don't know its range. It seems like Cybaeus spiders have larger eyes in relation to their 'head' than Coras? If that's a reasonable assumption than maybe you are correct with Hacklemesh Weaver after all.
