These are images of another individual tiger beetle that stayed still long enough for a few tele shots. Looking at from ground level one can see how formidable this critter is. It looks like a mini long-legged elephant, complete with tusks! I saw this individual attack an ant -- which escaped -- and shortly after that, a water strider that was wandering a few feet away from the puddle in the rutted road. The strider flew off in a great hurry.

Haven't got an id on this tiger beetle yet. I am seeing these all over the place on dry dirt roads and bare patches way back in the woods.
