Clearwing Moth - Carmenta wellerae

Clearwing Moth - Carmenta wellerae
Red Rock Canyon, near Patagonia, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
August 8, 2009

Thanks William
It looks like we were there at a good time to get these moths.

MOTH ID
It is Carmenta wellerae. I was in Patagonia on the same dates and collected numerous specimens on pheromone lures. This species is known primarily from this part of southeastern AZ. The color on the abdomen can vary a bit between the sexes and individual specimens.
