Hi Mike
Looked at tons of insect photos lately and this one is one of the very best. Illumination done just right. I would love to learn of any flash details.

Dave, Thanks for the nice comment. I wish I had some terrific information to give you, but almost all my photos are taken without flash. I usually try to keep the sun behind me but in this photo I had to take it from the side because of the position of the robber fly. I did try to take advantage of the goldenrod in the background but I was more concerned with two dried stems that wanted to get between me and the insect.
