Giant Crane Fly - Tipula abdominalis - male

Giant Crane Fly - Tipula abdominalis - Male
Ballston Lake, Saratoga County, New York, USA
August 19, 2009
Size: 28 mm body
Two large crane flies were observed mating for over 12 hours. This is the smaller of the two, so presumably the male. Can it be identified to species? ID help appreciated.
