Syrphid fly, female Pterallastes thoracicus
Hello Jo,
So, it is a syrphid (Hoverfly), and to be more precisely it is a female of Pterallastes thoracicus. There is only one species in the Nearctic. There are already some pictures in the guide!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards
