Spider and egg mass?

Spider and egg mass?
Alamo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA
August 28, 2009
Size: eggmass 15mm,spider 1.5mm
I found this egg mass on common milkweed early August. Several of what I think are spiders emerged from it today 8/28/09. They have spun some silk threads between the leaf and the jar they are in.
Is it a spider and if so what species?

Who knows?
Spiderlings are almost impossible to identify. These do look like some kind of orb weaver, though. Those "shoulder" humps suggest something in the genus Araneus, but again, until they are sexually mature (final molt), all bets are off.
