i tried bringing one in the house once as it was getting late fallish and installed her in the warmest room in the house. She turned a lovely purple color in late Nov and then died..but in sure ive seen many generations of her grandkids..down the years.

I'm not
100% positive from your angle, but I'm pretty sure she's this:

Does her back look like that?

This webpage says their life span is one year. But with those egg sacs, you'll have plenty more next year! =)

thats her
thanks

who's the other inhabitant?
Looks like another spider in the web to [our] lower-right of the Garden Spider, though I can't tell for sure from the photo.

I learned about a species that steals prey from orb webs, and recall it has an abdomen that looks rather like the one I think I'm seeing. Can you or anyone confirm if that's what I am seeing, or is it just an immature Garden spider... or even prey??
