Lone individual crawled up onto my kayak as I was paddling along shore of reservoir.

Thanks to all
...of you for helping with this ID. In reading the habitat descriptions for the other specimens in the BG gallery and in the general description for the Rove Beetle family, I see that this is a terrestrial species, so my discovery on it on the water likely means that it had been carried "out to sea" accidentally. Our kayaks had been pulled up on land a few minutes before this photo was taken, so perhaps it crawled onto a boat on the shore then and was discovered later when we were underway again.
