Callinicus pollenius

Callinicus pollenius
Halstead Meadow, Tulare County, California, USA
July 18, 2009
This was easily the most exciting robber find of my trip to CA. If it wasn't for it's tell-tale robberfly flight style, I would have passed this off for a wasp.

Very pretty
and apparently a master of deception. (I thought it a mydas fly at first glance, and in profile it looks like some bee flies.)
