Bee Fly - Villa? - Paravilla

Bee Fly - Villa? - Paravilla
Coyote Hills Regional Park, Alameda County, California, USA
August 30, 2009
Size: ~ 5-10 mm
Like many bee flies, found in an open sunny area of dirt and short grass. Perhaps one of the Villa sp? Reminds me of our images of V. agrippina? Not even sure of the genus, though - the wings are mostly clear, but there is a smoky tinge to the costal (?) part of the wing.

This is Paravilla; Villa doesn't usually have a pointy face like this.

Moved from Bee Flies.
