Ano Nuevo State Park, San Mateo County, California, USA
August 1, 2009
This is a different individual than those of the preceding images in the series, but from the same population and day. I thought this ventral view may be helpful for ID purposes. This poor beetle had lost its hind-tarsi and left mid-tibia when I saw it tumble down a sand dip and start squirming on its back. It walked off and I wasn't aware of its missing leg parts until I saw the images later.
