BLACK-BROWN WASP - Polistes fuscatus

BLACK-BROWN WASP - Polistes fuscatus
Greenville, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
September 1, 2009
Size: ¾" - 1"
This wasp was part of a variety of wasps and bees feeding on the "flowers" of a lengthy stand of Japanese Knotweed in my yard. They were all so focused on feeding,
I was able to get VERY CLOSE and take photos. This wasp seemed to like straddling sections!

Nice series, Marcia.
It's fun to watch them stretch out - and great to have time to focus on these often twitchy creatures.

I think this looks like a Polistes fuscatus.
