Olive-green Swamp Grasshopper - Paroxya clavuliger - female

Olive-green Swamp Grasshopper - Paroxya clavuliger - Female
Horton's Pond, Chatham County, North Carolina, USA
September 23, 2005
Size: 35 mm
Detail of female from mating pair on a grass (or sedge?) stem along the margin of a pond. Length of female measured in place at about 35 mm. Length of male estimated to be about 25 mm--he was dangling at an odd angle.

Identification references will be added to guide page. The large size of the female seems to indicate this species versus the other eastern member of this genus, P. atlantica. See Capinera, Grasshoppers of Florida, p. 119 (1).
