Megetra - Megetra vittata - male - female

Megetra - Megetra vittata - Male Female
San Juan County, New Mexico, USA
September 21, 2005
Smaller male, larger female, I believe. Dots are sand grains splashed up during a thunderstorm. You can just barely make out a waterdrop near the 2nd red band on the female. I was fascinated by the way the female seemed to "puff up".
Doing some googling with the ID from this website, I found another site which identifies these further as megetra vittata. hmmmm. Not sure what that means, but I'll throw it on out there. :) See http://content.test.denison.edu/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/insectary3&CISOPTR=56&REC=8

Link
This may be a little easier to use. There are lots of good tips for handling links in the Help tab under Markup.

By the way: I, personally, would probably post something like this as an ID request to make sure of my ID before moving it to the guide- but perhaps you know more about beetles than I do.
