Moth (I think!) - Lepidophora lepidocera

Moth (I think!) - Lepidophora lepidocera
Desoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
September 3, 2009
I'm tempted to quit taking pictures of black insects! I'll frass after ID help. Thought I was taking a picture of a Geron at the time! On mint. As best I could tell, the wings were pretty uniformly dark.

Geron wasn't all that far off.
It is a bee fly, and an odd one: Lepidophora

Move your post to Bee Flies, and you could get an expert ID to species.

Yeah, those dark ones are hard to shoot!

Thanks for your work
as a "Gate-keeper"--it's very helpful!

My pleasure and a good fit for me.
I don't want to be an editor, but I do want to help. And I don't want to stick my neck out too far. Thanks for noticing and commenting.
