Great face! ... Looks like such a little character.
I'll never find these "gnats" so annoying again.

A very distinctive face indeed! I don't know ephydrids very well, but I was paging through the Manual of Nearctic Diptera and saw this guy, and it also matches specimens in our collection. Only 1 sp. in the genus in North America, restricted to coastal beaches in the NE.
