Dragonfly-like insect? - Ululodes macleayanus

Dragonfly-like insect? - Ululodes macleayanus
Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, USA
August 31, 2009
Size: 2 - 2.5"
This insect sat stationary with it's abdomen pointed upward for several hours. When apparently I got too close for comfort, it extended the wings and they briefly vibrated. It had four wings like a dragonfly, but long clubbed antennae.

Apparently it is a cryptic pose!
Sorry I just looked that up because I didn't know and I get excited when I learn new things...

This one is in genus Uloludes. The eyes give it away, see how they're divided? The other N. American genus doesn't have that. They're super cute!

Here's a good example of the divided eyes:

Way cool!
Natalie, thank you for the clarification. What a great "bug"!

Wow, that was fast!
Thank you, Andrew!
