Clearwing Moth - Synanthedon

Clearwing Moth - Synanthedon
Central Park, NY County, New York, USA
August 6, 2009
I've been given 3 different IDs by some of the most competent moth people in the NYC area. They are Synanthedon proxima, Synanthedon pyri and Carmenta ithacae.
Can anybody tell me if any of these are correct or if there can be a definitive ID?
Thanks in advance,
Lloyd

moth ID
I believe that this is Synanthedon accerubri ( the red maple borer).

Synanthedon accerubri
Bill, Thanks so much for the ID. S&L

Moth ID
Lloyd -This is a very tough image as it has been on the wing for a while and the body is worn. It is not S. proxima. I will have to look at some museum specimens for help. It looks just like the moth in photo 314830. I would move to the Sesioidea as a place holder. - Sorry that we may never really know what it is. Bill.

Clearwing Moth
Hi Bill, Appreciate your reply and info. Even if we can never ID it any further, it was still a beautiful and interesting critter to see. Thanks, Lloyd&Sandy

Determination-- not Synanthedon acerrubri
I am quite positive what this specimen is not. It is not Synanthedon acerrubri.
