Syrphid - Eristalinus aeneus - male

Syrphid - Eristalinus aeneus - Male
Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA
August 19, 2004
This was identified as an Eristalini syrphid. Can it be placed to genus? The eyes are different than any of the Eristalini in the guide.

Thanks
for the ID right down to species Gerard, and Beatriz for the guide page.

Male Eristalinus aeneus!
So, not Eristalis, but Eristalinus!
Sometimes also called Lathrytopthalmus (or something like that! :-))
Introduced European species!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards
