Soldier Fly????? Never seen this before. - Mydas tibialis

Size: 5-7 cm
This was found in my ento class. I have never seen a soldier fly such as this. Any Ideas?

Mydidae (Mydas Flies), maybe something like Mydas tibialis ?

Exactly.
Species ID is correct. Great find! This wasp is probably a mimic of Sphex nudus, though the flies are usually bigger than the wasps they mimic!
