Darling Underwing - Catocala cara

Darling Underwing - Catocala cara
Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
September 15, 2009
This moth couldn't fly. Aside from looking fairly beat up, it's wing on the left didn't work and it would just spin to the ground, then climb up the tree.

My best guess is Catocala amatrix (The Sweetheart), but the wear has made some of the markings hard to see.

Confirmation or correction appreciated. Thanks.

Wow!
Great image, but try Catocala cara instead.

Thanks Eric.
I think you are right. It's even more worn than I realized.
