has a specific name, which I do not remember. You as an expert asilid anatomist can surely supply it. Perhaps this image can be helpful to someone who has not seen this structure before and does not recognize the word. Unless I greatly mistake the spirit and intention of bugguide, we are working together to increase awareness and accessibility of information relating to insects. This is a clear image of a specific structure, and EVEN IF it does not help you taxonomically identify this particular individual, I would like to kindly suggest that it nonetheless has SOME didactic value as an insect image. This is a case where your expertise could be used to increase knowledge, instead of eradicating the possibility of increase.
I notice you have not bothered to frass images 44355, 51281, 51657, 123545, and several others from your own collection, that are arguably of equal quality and value as my images of this fly. I hope you will apply the same selective criteria to your own contributions?

A judge in an insect photo collection competition. This series of shots of a Colorado male Efferia species which appears to have been waterlogged is not being frassed because you lost a chance at a prize. This species will not be identified. And we have literally hundreds of Efferia images which we will continue to monitor and sort and assess in the hopes we can make some photographic headway. Some more of them will no doubt be frassed. But never as an act of photographic vengeance. If we did identify this further than the genus then it would not be a very representative shot for that species at this time.

My own submitted shots are certainly there for sorting or frassing. I don't have anything to do with editing sections except the Asilidae. So anything I submitted for my own edification in other families is frassable by those section editors if they do not find them useful to the overall bugguide collection. We are attempting to arrange and edit the large overflow of Robber images from this past season and the retained images from the past few years. I have had to make some calls on some nice shots that were of species we have an excess of. Or shots that have no chance of being identified for useful comparisons in the future. It is going to happen occasionally. Especially at the end of the summer season.
