Small whitish butterfly -
Pieris rapae
Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA
September 16, 2009
Size: small
This butterfly was just a little bit larger than a Spring or Summer Azure. I couldn't find it in my Kafman field guide.

This butterfly was much small
This butterfly was much smaller than any Cabbage White I've ever seen. In fact, for a minute or so, this one was sitting right next to a Cabbage White and it was about half its size. Is there that much variation in sizes?

small individuals appear in most species occasionally
It's hard to judge size from the photo, but it otherwise looks like a pretty normal (probably male)
Pieris rapae
