Size: 2 inches plus
I found him/her on the dirt driveway, heading from/to the trees. Trees here are mostly white, black and red oaks, sassafras, serviceberry, tupelo and locust with a few mountain pines. I've never seen one like it here in 35 years.

Luna Moth
This is an Actias luna- Luna Moth larva. I've found them on black tupelo before. It's pink like that because it is looking for a place to make its cocoon and pupate.

I love the Luna moths, they use to fly around our 20 acres of mountain woods every year. For many years now, we have not seen any adult Luna moths. I'm so happy (and hopeful) that we now have at least this one.
